Remembering Vershinin On The Cobbles

Inspired by Chekhov’s Three Sisters, this painting imagines Olga, Masha and Ira, reminiscing about their lives, loves, hopes and regrets. They recall the dashing Lt Col Vershinin, and his impact on their lives.  The imagined impressionistic cityscape forming the muted background is an archaic Manchester of the cobbles onto which the tableau has been transfigured. Scumble and glaze has been deployed significantly to add depth and vivid colour.
