The myth of Danae tells of how Zeus came to the mother of Perseus, according to Greek antiquity, as a shower of gold. The background hums with golds, ochre, umbers and lemons. The figure is in contrast, a luminescent kaleidoscope of soft hues, making up a flesh tone, that dances on the skin. The figure of Danae herself is heavily influenced in the mannerist style, serpentine in pose, and exaggerated of pose. This is in part inspired by the attitudes struck in Indian classical dance. Danae is presented semi- nude in the mannerist style.
